But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness and all these things will be given to your as well. “

Over the past decade you have probably watched as society has become more and more busy. Time the kids used to enjoy spending with their parents has now become time spent with the sports team coaches, piano teachers, dance instructors and babysitters. It seems the only time you get with your kids is in transferring them from one extra curricular event to the next. Well don’t feel special. This scenario probably describes most of America. We are a rushed society, not living until we have experienced all that life has to offer.

Something I have noticed as a children’s pastor is that no matter how often people are just too busy for church or God, they still are going to make time for these other things. It is so important for them to work on that baseball swing or really cultivate their natural talent to be artistic or even have family day on Sundays at the beach. I have absolutely nothing against any of these extra curricular activities, but as parents it is our responsibility to make sure that they make God their first priority in life. I guess you could say that some have been marching to the wrong beat. No matter how busy we get or what all our kids want to be involved in, we cannot allow all the extras to become our number one priority.

Look at this verse in Matthew 6:32-33. It says how the pagans run solely after all the “stuff”, but if we seek His Kingdom and His righteousness, God will provide us with all the “stuff” as well. We have to be an example to our kids and let them know that we want them to prioritize their life with God, family, and church first and then all the extras. Take some time to sit down with your kids this week and do a priority check. Look at your busy schedules and make sure you have them in order. Make appropriate adjustments if necessary. Your kids will thank you later, I promise.

Pastor Todd

King of the Hill

There are things you can do to ensure that your kids are established in the things of God as well as help them to make the right decisions throughout their lives. The first is to make Jesus the King of your household.
A king is defined as a supreme ruler who controls everything in his kingdom. Unlike living under an earthly king, after you make Jesus Lord of your life, it is up to you to decide if you and your household will serve and follow Him. Joshua 24:15 says, “But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose you for yourselves this day whom you will serve…but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord.” You have to come to the point in your relationship with God that no matter what anyone else does and no matter what situations in life you face, you and your household will serve God. Only after making this kind of commitment will you have made Jesus king.
Making Him king of your life will also affect every decision you make, what you do and say, how you act and react, and what you allow or don’t allow in your home. A teacher I know once said, “You should seek God on everything, even which cable package you should choose.”
In saying all this, Children are looking for someone who will stand up and say, “Follow me as I follow God.” Parents should strive to be leaders that are examples to their children. I want to instill my beliefs in my daughter to the point one day that they are exhibited in the music she listens to, the television she watches, and the movies she sees.
Hebrews 11:6 says, “He is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” If you seek God to be the leader of your household, He will reward you and be that Influence that you desire Him to be for you and your family. May God bless you and be the Leader that you want Him to be for both you and your kids!

Recent studies show 75% of parents never get anytime to themselves. KidsTown wants to help with that by giving parents a night each month that they can have a date night with their spouse, night out with friends, or just a quiet night to themselves. Parents interested in taking advantage of this opportunity will have to pre-register their children in the front church foyer or in KidsTown. Parents that preregister will also be entered for a drawing for a gift card to eat out on us that night. See the website (www.loxleychurchofgod.org) for more details and future dates.

Hey and Welcome to our newest blog.
